I've been doing the "One Word" for a long time now and find it immensely helpful in focusing. I do a word cloud with synonyms and associations to remind myself of various aspects of the Word. This year is "Delight." I love that the Garden of Eden was "The Garden of Delight," since I just learned that Eden means delight. God delights in me, and I reciprocate in delighting in Him and in everything that He brings to me daily--savoring food instead of rushing, delighting in creation, treasuring His Word, taking joy in time with my husband and family, but above all, cherishing Him.
Love this Steve! I like how you broke the areas down into different areas of health. What is the format you follow for a monthly circle of trust? What questions do you have? I’d love to hear more about how you do this. Happy New Year!
Wow you really thought this out in detail. I’ve only just picked my word - emergent. It’s not that I’m emerging but rather I’m tuning into what God has emerging for me this year. I have spent 2 years working on my mental health after a severe bout of anxiety and depression. I feel ready for something new to be happening. I don’t know if it will bloom slowly or just pop up in front of me but I’m looking for whatever and however God wants to use me this year.
Your word— emergent. I love this. None of what I wrote about my one word just happened. Rather, I like you, are emerging. I’m just older than you I suppose 😜
I like it. My word for the year is “optimism” as I am ever hopeful.
I am guided by the “four pillars of health” in my life and use it as the framework for my newsletter but never thought of the fifth pillar - vocational health. That’s an interesting one and I will have to give that some thought.
Thank you for modeling and pursuing this wonderful word and lifeway for us, Steve. I am going to chew in it today instead of thin Oreos, and pray that you don’t try to do all these areas at once! Blessed New Year from an aging woman.
I liked this article and wanted to pass it along to you: https://open.substack.com/pub/drkellyflanagan/p/crowdsourcing-what-is-your-word-for-2025?r=1b0d0s&utm_medium=ios

If you search my Substack, I’ve written about it! Good to read your words! Thanks for posting!

Oh yes… optimism is so needed and wanted! Bravo!

Hey there… that would be impossible. I am not a multi-talker. Blessings!
Steve, thank you for posting your experience and writing such a lovely poem that expresses me, too.
