Torchbearer
In our yard in Western North Carolina, the glory of the Limelight Hydrangeas is now in bloom.
These magnificent blossoms transform from green into light and became like torches of light in shape giving off their brilliance and white dazzling array.
Gwen and I sit on our front porch each morning now watching their transfiguration. And this morning, as the sun hit these torches, I walked out into our yard and just stared.
I noticed.
I nurtured.
I named what it was that these amazing torches ignited in me.
The poem that I want to share with you is the result of this experience.
The contemplative journey is marked by growing in our awareness. The outer world becomes a portal into the inner one.
You don’t move quickly on the terrain where something invites you to pay attention.
At least I don’t want to let “fast” be the pace of my life anymore.
I would miss the torches.
I would miss the light offered me.
I would miss the good news being brought to me in this amazing creation.
Blessings on the journey!
Stephen
