Here’s my poem about some of the challenges we are currently in regarding “higher education.” There are more challenges than I could go into and more, I wanted to focus on a redefining of what “higher” education might actually be—or become for some of us.
I redefine ‘higher’ by defining the lower that is more concerning to me.
I illustrate the higher by taking the reader on a tour of my yard—my current school room here in the mountains of Western North Carolina—a true laboratory of education for me these days.
In a season of many graduations, this particular poem has been brooding in my heart for quite some time but the current challenges with the Ivy League universities, brought my thinking to the forefront and helped me find the words I’ve been searching for these days.
I hope you find this interesting and worth of a good discussion with a few close friends!
