Summer is just around the corner. Don’t we all need a break? It’s just been so much. It’s been too much.

A true summer break is what might save our lives.

We’ve been talking about going to the beach. A change of scenery might help pull us out of the fall hurricane trauma and the spring fires destruction. People flock to the beach when the weather gets warm. Will you be going? A change of scenery; a Mojito with fresh mint muddled to perfection could help; a swim in the ocean before the water gets hot. Maybe we all need summer hours. It certainly can’t hurt.

I need summer hours. In the summer, I try not to work at all. Imagine that, if you can. Take the whole summer off and be free. People did that before the madness of money descended upon us all. What is the madness driving you these days? How can you plan now to restore your soul in the coming season? Think about it, would you? Before it’s too late.

We can’t be productive in every single season can we? Don’t we need long stretches where our doing is not doing at all? Slow time—slow summer days. How does that sound now?

Leave behind the world of sorrow, just for a few days, please. We’ve been buried with sorrow—covered up with anxiety. Go find your beach chairs and wash the dust of winter off of them. Brighten up your deck with a red hot geranium. Do it today—today mind you, before you do one more thing. And then this, plan for summer hours; shorter work days; less work if you can. Let enjoyment be the goal and soul satisfaction, our new quest.

Get a pot. Buy some dirt. Plant a tomato. It’s not over, dear friends! It’s not over at all.

My poem, “Summer Hours” has a sense of urgency about it. I feel that urgency to have summer finally get here. A different pace. A different kind of life. A differ kind of speed that is slow and easy.

See what you think as you read my poem, “Summer Hours.” See what stirs up in you? Talk about it with a friend. Pass the poem around and see what kind of conversation gets going by it?

And, do leave a comment. I’d love to hear from you on your own need for “Summer hours.” Maybe it’s just me. But I don’t it.
