I know. I know. We’re on information overload. People send us links. We see so many “click here for more information.” New books are coming out the wazoo— and so much to digest. I get it.
The “wellness industry”—the pills, supplaments, diets, exercise programs are all a whopping, $5.6 billion industry in today’s economy. What I can tell you is this—and this is not information overload—-there is no wellbeing apart from getting well inside ours souls and here is a message you can listen to for 18 minutes what could alter how you’re really doing. Please keep reading!
But, if you can trust me—even if you don’t know me—perhaps, you might just try to trust me. The purpose of this particular Substack is to share a link to a You Tube Video of Henri Nouwen delivering a life-altering message. It’s him preaching. It’s the foundational message of his entire plethora of books, messages and articles. It is him talking about Being the Beloved.
I did not even know this message of his existed until I got up this morning; made me a dark roasted coffee and sat down in the early morning and just saw this particular link show up in my “feed”. I was fed as I listened to it.
Being and becoming the beloved has been my core message as well. Why? Because I needed this message myself so much. No message is more important. No sermon ever delievered by anyone I’ve ever listened to, rivals this great message. It’s just so revolutionary. How could I not share this with you?
It’s 18 minutes long. Just 18 minutes with me telling you that his could really alter the trajectory of your life as it has mine.
Take a moment. Create a space in the next couple of days and gather round your iphone or computer or TV and just hit the “play” button. I trust this will be a gift to you. I hope it will be the greatest gift you’ve received in quite some time.
If you scroll back in my Substack, you’ll see for the past couple of writings, I’ve been fleshing this message out again—the truth of us being called “the beloved” by the Creator of the Universe. I wrote a new poem about it. I developed what I called a spiritual primer—the ABC’s of Becoming the Beloved. I took twenty people to a Trappist Monastery and worked through this theme and I was an eye witness to seeing women and men wake up to the truth about themselves. There, among the 3,000 acres, we gathered with monks and azaleas and spent three days digesting this core truth.
But here, in 18 minutes, wherever you are and however you choose to listen to this message, you’ll have it for yourself.
Here’s the Link:
Henri Nouwen's message on Being the Beloved
As we approach this coming week—a Holy Week indeed, may the Spirit blow fresh embers into your soul—reaching the deep down inaccessible places of your heart where lies about yourself and the seedbed of self-rejection is found.
May you be resurrected with new life.
May what needs to die in you die.
May life bloom inside of you so that you cannot contain the Source any longer.
May a thousand kinds of deaths bring about a thousand resurrections in your life, relationships, health and well-being.
May, we together become Easter People.
And, oh please, please leave a comment AFTER and only AFTER you’ve listened to Henri. It will be a joy to read as we approach Easter together.
Every blessing,
Steve
Thanks Steve, for the 18 minutes- this has reoriented me as I have been sitting in the midst of a medical conference filled with worldly ideals.
I’ve read several of Henri Nouwen’s books but have never heard his voice! That was the first treat to hear his message in his own voice. I am a Beloved child of God and needed this reminder today. I want to share the video clip with many others, especially with someone who is struggling with a recent divorce, depression, loss of job and isn’t a follower of Jesus Christ. I pray for his salvation as he thinks he is “toxic” because he has lost his ability to do/work, his reputation (has been slandered on internet) and has lost his house & most of his earthly possessions during the divorce. He is the Beloved son of God but doesn’t know it or believe it. Please join me in praying that someday he can be comforted with this truth.
